Fishing Tournament

July 18-20, 2008

Benefiting the Block Island Volunteer Fire Department

Welcome to the second year of this annual event.  National and local businesses have donated generous prizes for tournament winners.  Registration included a Tournament shirt one ticket to the all you can eat and drink cookout.

Rules and Info

·        Species targeted – Striped Bass, Bluefish, and Fluke.

·        Anglers may pre-register at Block Island Fishworks (Ocean Avenue) and Twin Maples Bait and Tackle (Beach Avenue).

·        Fee: $30 registration fee includes one division, $10 for each extra division, includes a tourney t-shirt and post party ticket.  Juniors (under 16) are $20

·        Fishing will start at 6pm on Friday July 18 and end at 12pm on Sunday, July 20.

·        All fish must be weighed in to be eligible for prizes.

·        Weigh-ins will be held at Block Island Fishworks and Twin Maples during normal business hours. 

·        Tournament limits: minimum size for Fluke is 20”, Bluefish is 24”, and Striped Bass must be 36”.  The use of any natural bait (eel skins, squid, sandworms, etc…) in conjunction with artificial baits (plugs, tubes, jigs, etc…) will be considered in the ‘bait’ division.

Tournament Format
The heaviest fish in each division will qualify for the prize drawing at the cookout on Sunday at 1pm at the Firebarn.  The largest striped bass overall (by weight) will win the grand prize.  All fish must be weighed in to qualify.

Tournament Categories; 18 possible qualifying fish.  Registration includes one Division entry.

·         Bait:          Boat Division – Stripers, Blues, or Fluke caught while fishing with bait from a boat (including kayaks)

Shore Division – Stripers, Blues, or Fluke caught while fishing with bait from the shores of Block Island

* Sandworms, eels, eel skin, clams, squid etc… used in conjunction with artificials (plugs, tubes, jigs, etc…) will be considered in the bait division.

 

·         Artificial:   Boat Division – Stripers, Blues, or Fluke caught while fishing from a boat (including kayaks)

Shore Division – Stripers, Blues, or Fluke caught while fishing from the shores of Block Island.

* Artificials include plugs or lures of any type, trolling gear, flies or fly fishing, anything not using bait.

 

·         Junior Division:    Three fish division; Striped Bass, Bluefish , and Fluke.  Boat or shore using bait or artificials.

 

Weigh-in’s

·        Weigh ins will be held at Block Island Fishworks and Twin Maples daily, during normal business hours

·        Fish will be weighed and a fin clipped. 

·        Be sure to verify weight with weigh master after weighing your fish.
